First week of school

The first week of school is off to a great start! We've been working together as a team to learn about each other and find out what it means to be on team GRIT.
First we gave students puzzle pieces to decorate and then work together to solve without knowing how they fit together. They did a wonderful job working together and showing off their artistic skills to make our grit headline on our bulletin board:

Students also worked as individuals and then in groups to create a definition of grit. They wrote their combined or revised definitions on the board so the whole class could see:
Then we pulled out the most common words to see what we think makes up grit:
Finally, students used these words and new brainstorms to think of acronyms for grit for grit posters. This way we can advertise who we are and keep in mind our values and ideals. Posters in progress:
Go team GRIT!!

Hello, 8th graders on team GRIT!

I'm looking forward to meeting you soon! Don't forget: out team's family potluck BBQ on Monday, August 24th at 6:00 P.M. This is a great chance for you to catch up with team mates you may not have seen this summer, and of course to meet your team teachers. Mr. Jensen and I will be there!

School starts on Wednesday, August 26th. I can't believe that summer is winding down and school is almost here, but I'm excited to be a part of the Camels Hump team.

Parents, check in on my blog at anytime to see what we've been doing on team GRIT in language arts and social studies. See you all soon!
